What is the Mental Health Treatment Process?
What exactly is mental health?
Most people have a working definition they use in order to define mental health. However, it is essential to know more of the nuts and bolts of what mental health is and why it is important to our overall health and well-being.
The following is a definition from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s Mental Health website:
“Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.”
Our emotional and mental well-being is critical to our growth as human beings. Mental health impacts all of our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. When you are mentally healthy, you can be productive in your day-to-day life. You are also able to meet daily challenges head-on and are able to grow and learn. Good mental health also allows you to nurture and grow in your relationships with family, friends, and others. Most importantly, you have a solid sense of self-worth and are confident and self-assured as you navigate the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Throughout your lifetime, your mental health is fluid. As you mature and reach different stages of life, your mental health changes as you grow. There may be times when the stresses of daily life and the transitions into other stages of life can be overwhelming. If not dealt with in a healthy manner, it will lead to poor mental health and even mental illness.
